Access the Laws That Affect You in ASL,
Captions, Plain Language, and Voice
Build Michigan’s first fully accessible bill tracker for Deaf, HOH, and DeafBlind communities with ASL videos, captions, and plain-language summaries.
We are the Access, Equity & Leadership Collective (AELC), working in partnership with the Michigan Coalition for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind to build the first fully accessible bill tracker nationwide, starting in Michigan. I’m Teddy Dorsette III, the Executive Director of AELC, and I started this project because our community deserves equal access to state legislation in formats we can see, read, and understand.
With your support, we can bring the Accessible Bill Tracker to life, providing ASL videos, captions, plain-language summaries, AI-powered search, and advocacy tools so Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind individuals in Michigan and eventually across the country can track, understand, and act on legislation that impacts their lives.
ASL VERISON COMING SOON.
Project Details / What We Are Creating:
Legislation affects everyone, but accessible information is often missing for our community. We envision a platform where anyone can search bills, watch ASL videos, read captions, and understand complex legislative language — starting in Michigan with plans to expand nationwide.
Your funding will directly support:
-
Building the core platform with AI-powered bill search
-
Creating ASL video summaries, captions, and plain-language explanations
-
Testing accessibility with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind community members in Michigan
-
Dedicated staffing to ensure the platform is built, accessible, and connected to the community — coordinating development, creating ASL content, and engaging users
-
Community outreach and education to ensure the tracker reaches everyone who can benefit
Together, these elements will provide a tool that makes legislation accessible, understandable, and actionable for our community in Michigan — and lay the foundation for national expansion.
